No, I’m not recruiting for the Army, but I am recruiting none the less. November traditionally means elections and voting and of course Thanksgiving. SIS does not necessarily parallel the national election or voting process as we vote and elect officers and board members in December. However now is the time to be thinking about this very topic for SIS, not necessarily just the election of officers and board members but the election of new officers and those board members whose term may be coming to a close. New being the key point. For the last several years, at least for the Presidents position, it has been between a couple of individuals almost on an alternating rotation. Though it has been relatively successful (that being obvious with the quality of dinners, ceilis and festivals that SIS has either put on themselves or have assisted with), new leadership comes with new ideas, new thoughts and a new sense of direction. The very basis for the existence of SIS has long been established but we need to continue to seek out new adventures and to take the traditional and make it even more educational and fun for all that are involved with SIS. Every time we sign-up new members, with these new members hopefully will come these new ideas or at least what they feel SIS should or could be all about. This is why I ask and urge that all SIS members take an active roll within our organization and seriously think about becoming an officer or a board member or at least encourage that person whom you feel may be right for any of these positions. Remember, this is your organization and everyone needs to, or should, have a say in what they want from SIS and what they expect. Yes we may not be a news worthy national organization who’s upcoming election makes any difference to anyone but SIS, nonetheless our little bit of the election process for our organization means a great deal to us and could and will greatly effect the present and future of SIS. Remember, We Need You!!          Bill Knight, President/SIS In English pubs, ale is ordered by pints and quarts... So in old England, when customers got unruly, the bartender would yell at them "Mind your pints and quarts, and settle down." It's where we get the phrase: "mind your P's and Q's" Our current Newsletter Editor, Pat Hamilton, has served for 2 years and is ready to help train a new person to enjoy this monthly endeavor. Replacement will start by January. Please contact Pat if you are interested, info@BlackHillsCelticEvents.org. Pat will gladly work with anyone interested to bring them up to speed. AND, they are welcome to make any changes they see fit – Call it “Newsletter Editor’s artistic license”. Your Input Needed This newsletter would be far more interesting with your input: news, events, culture, history, photos, new Celtic businesses, anything. Submit your articles in MS Word doc and photos in jpg format. E-mail to info@BlackHillsCelticEvents.org One additional advantage to holding our meetings in the Celtic Connection is that we will be storing our Library there as well. That way we can easily display our varied books, CD’s and videos for our membership to check out! Members are welcome to check out these materials. We’ve got tattoos, history books, novels, Celtic folktales. If anyone wants to give a ‘review’ on anything from the collection for the newsletter, just let Pat Hamilton know and she’ll give you some ‘ink’ space! We will be moving our storage items from “Extra Storage”, 1800 E. St Pat to the Celtic Connection in downtown Rapid City, (517 6th Street) at 5:00, before our board and general meeting on Thursday, November 15. The Celtic Connection is letting the Scottish & Irish Society of the Black Hills have space in their basement to store our supplies. Be sure to stop in and THANK THEM for their generosity. The C.O.A. is seeking nominations for their awards ceremony early in 2008 recognizing individuals who have contributed to the Celtic Community. This contribution is often in the fashion of support, endorsement and promotion of the Celtic heritage. If you have any nominations, please contact Matt Murraine, President or one of the other board members. This will be a regular feature of our Newsletter with your help.
