A Splendid Time of Year
March 17th, what a splendid time of year! No, I’m not crazy. When the weather outside can be blustery and cold, the thought of St Patrick’s Day warms one’s heart. How can you not be happy and full of joy when thinking about this day of the Irish? The thought of good food, good drink and bountiful fellowship makes one glad to be Irish, if not only for a day. It’s a time to celebrate the wearin’ of the green and to dance to an Irish jig or just to daydream and have a chat with a mischievous wee person. A day celebrated with parades and Ceilidhs and plenty of Irish limericks and song matched by no other holiday. A day we can all let our hair down put on our finest Irish green and really celebrate that we are Irish or at least want to be Irish.
SIS’s
planned celebrations will be no less spectacular, starting with the parade at
noon followed later that day by our dinner and Ceilidhs at the Episcopal Church
at 6pm and of course all members are asked to lend a hand to make this event as
grand and as fun as always.
PARADE:

Our sister group, the Celts of America, is entering a couple of floats in the St Patrick’s Day parade and has asked that we join the in this march and is welcoming any assistance we can provide in prepping the floats at 58 Signal drive starting at 4:00 Wednesday, March 7. Should be a great time, the theme chosen for the parade float is hilarious and I might add, quite Irish.
So come
celebrate the Day of the Irish, wear your finest green and of course bring your
most favorite wee person to the fun and frolic of St Patrick Day.
A special thanks to my wife Sally and daughter Amber for working so hard to put together and have ready SIS’s new Celtic cookbook for St Patrick’s Day.
Bill Knight, head “wee” person.

“Hey Everyone,
We went to see Kirk Tuesday at Craig hospital and we were
pleasantly surprised. He is in good spirits and able to
speak well though the trach tube made it a bit difficult.
He'll eventually be getting rid of the tube but it's kind of
a process. He's got use of the muscles in his shoulders
back and most of his arms. He's hoping for use of his hands
soon. He's got a great room at the hospital with plenty of
room for visitors. It sounds like the athletes down in
Denver have been regulars. We tried calling ahead but no
one answered at the number we were given so we just showed
up. Fortunately, he wasn't in a rehab session, which from
the sounds of it there are many. It was great to see him again. I'd
encourage anyone who's in the area to drop by and say hi.”

Kirk Spell Family Relief Fund: $15,000 !!!!!
The C.O.A. started Relief Fund right after Kirk’s accident. Many of our S.I.S. members contributed to this fund and we want to thank everyone who gave so generously. One check of a few thousand dollars was already presented to Kirk’s son in January. This check will be for $15,000 and presented to Mark Renkin on March 8th to give to Kirk and Mollie. The S.I.S. has pledged $300 and collected money at the Burns dinner that will also be added to the relief fund.
The C.O.A. is planning its own celebration at the Grand RE-Opening of Dublin Square in it’s new location (kiddy corner from the old location, in the old Venue 8). Join them after our St Patrick’s Day dinner. They’ll have drawings and are selling a collectable beer glass. Check ‘em out after our dinner!
Ray Graff is VERY appreciative of everyone who’s donated some time to help them with their remodeling efforts converting the old Venue 8 into an OUTSTANDING new Dublin Square Pub. You’re welcome to drop in any day and any time and Ray will put you to work. They plan to be open by St. Patrick’s Day. Look forward to an Irish restaurant in the basement once things get settled a bit!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Beannachtai
