Volume 7 Issue 7 July 2005

Hello Fellow Society Members,
Now that the hot days of summer are here let’s hope
they carry on right through Labor Day weekend. One nice weekend and we could
have a very large crowd visiting the festival. Most of the major planning is
done and now we need volunteers to assist with the detail work. The schedule
includes new events and all the old favorites. Also, we are planning an
expanded list of activities for the children. At the July membership meeting we
would like to start lists of volunteers to work at the festival. Our plan is to
get enough people signed up that a person will work a two hour shift and then
have the rest of the day to enjoy the festival. It looks like we could easily
have the biggest and best festival yet.
Just a reminder, we are always looking for new
members. If you know someone that is interested in things Celtic please bring
them to the meeting and we will welcome them into the society.
At all the membership meetings we try to have a
short program or some entertainment of some kind. If you would like to present
something or know of someone, please contact John Burke so he can schedule you
in.
The July meeting will be July 21st at
7:00 PM at the TREA building. PLEASE come and help us prepare to host this
outstanding event.
I hope to see all of you at the meeting.
Your
President,
Bill
Bom

The meeting was called to
order by President Bill Bom. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and
approved, and Bob Goldey reported that we have approximately $1800 in the
checking account.
Gary Hamilton reported that
we do have a web site, however a few modifications need to be done.
Bill Bom reported that
Festival plans are progressing with the following confirmed: Star of the West
complex as well as bandstand, chairs, etc., Musicians comprised of Men of
Worth, Fiddlers Three and String Thaw.
Since the Alex Johnson nor Ramkota hotels are not
available for the concerts, other locales are being investigated.
To reduce costs for the
athletics this year it has been decided by Kirk Spell that there will be only
“A” athletes (no professionals) in attendance with five awards for each
division.
John Salyers suggested we
contact Marge Rosario and discuss the additional activities for children that
we have, so that she may incorporate them into her existing program.
A discussion was held
regarding the grand entry parade. It was decided to hold it at 9:00 AM, instead
of noon; and to include the pipers and athletes along with the clan procession.
There being no further
business, the meeting adjourned.
Respectfully Submitted by Carole Conrad, Acting
Secretary

Board of Directors Meeting, June 2, 2005
The Board of Directors met
at TREA with the following members present: Bill Bom, Bill Knight, Bob Goldey,
Gary Hamilton, Midge Schmidt, John Salyers, and Carole Conard
A discussion was held on the
fact that we still do not have a web site and that the lack of a web site is
hampering our ability to attract musicians, vendors, clan tents, etc. for the
Festival in September. Gary Hamilton volunteered to investigate possible
servers and to get a site going as soon as possible.
Bill Bom reported that Mark Renken and Kirk Spelling have agreed to conduct the athletic games and that there will not be any professionals participating this year. The “challenge cabre” will be a new addition this year.
John Salyers announced that
the trebuchet is complete and ready to go.
A discussion was held on the
necessity of raising the dues because of our additional annual expenses of a
web site and storage shed. Gary Hamilton moved that the dues be raised to $20
per year for individuals, and to $30 per year per family. This would go into
effect in January, 2006. The motion was seconded by John Salyers and passed
unanimously.
Respectfully Submitted by Carole Conrad, Acting
Secretary
